When collecting parasols near trees, be aware that deadly poisonous species of Amanita, including Panther Cap, also have white free gills, a white spore print and a large ring on the stem. Some also have spots on the cap surface. Amanita species differ from parasols in the presence of a volva at their stem base and in their cap colour.

St George’s Mushroom

Even the most dedicated mushroom hunter finds the first three months of the year largely lacking in edible finds. Morels are classic early season fungi but are seldom encountered by the novice collector, unlike that other herald of spring, the St George’s Mushroom.
